Victoria Bid Wi-Fi
The challenge:
The Victoria Business Improvement District (BID) is a business-led and business-funded body formed to support economic growth in Victoria and to create a vibrant destination for those who work, visit and live here. The Victoria BID was established on 1st April 2010 as a not-for-profit company limited by guarantee. Back in late 2015, the BID approached us to provide public WiFi throughout the BID area.
InkspotWiFi were tasked with building a completely outdoor network across the public streets and areas of the BID. With this being a rather large area, somewhat bigger than your average town centre, we knew from the off that we would require a number of telecom hubs to deliver such an extensive network. As the entire space is outdoors, covering both public thoroughfares and highways, we set about building relationships with the business landlords and tenants within the BID. Following a number of discussions, we secured one location at the front of Victoria Train Station at Terminus Place and a second on the roof of John Lewis’s head office on Victoria Street. We installed a BT point in the offices of Southern Rail with three access points mounted out on the roof above Superdrug at Terminus Place. We then installed a second BT point on the top floor of the John Lewis building and mounted three further access points on their roof.
What we’ve achieved:
We now have a seamless network, which covers from Grosvenor Gardens, across the front of the station and all the way Victoria Street.
What’s next:
We have secured some rooftops on Buckingham Palace Road and will set about installing a further network which will give coverage up to Victoria Coach Station.
Visitor numbers across the network:
To date we have seen almost 78,000 connections with a daily average of 731 and a split of 4,548 amount return to 41,445 amount of new registrations.
